SYMBIOTIC PRODUCT-SERVICE LIFECYCLE CONCURRENCY TOOLS

The convergence of Product and Service into Product-Service Systems (PSS) is a major challenge for manufacturing companies worldwide. In the perspective of the PSYMBIOSYS project, a major obstacle for developing PSS is to preserve the specific characteristics of Product and Service business in a value chain, without creating isolated and disconnected business areas. A start point to manage this is to handle two aspects, the organisational aspect and the process aspect.

  • For the organisational aspect two dimensions are relevant for cooperation patterns between Product and Service business within a company are developed: Structural Focus for the foundation of either Product or Service within the company, Cooperation Activity for the behavioural interaction between Product and Service alongside the phases of Product and Service lifecycles.

  • For the process aspect the developers has to combine Product Lifecycle Management and Service Lifecycle Management approaches to support the lifecycle of integrated Product-Service Systems. Here is the focus on interactions between Product and Service Lifecycle Management by using an adopted Design Structure Matrix (DSM) in the early phases in the beginning of the lifecycles. The aim is to establish an interaction wizard in order to give interaction advice for upcoming new product-oriented service in the manufacturing industry.

The proposed integration of product and service design provide a detailed description for developers, this can just be regarded as a first step to an integrated PSS lifecycle management.

Platform communication

The platform communicates with the platform for the design through the Project Management module, to transform the selected ideas in project management models. As output, the platform provides the lowest level of the architecture of its source code and executable processes.

Realisation base

The realisation is based on two direction: vertically it is based on a path of generic to specific implementation guiding the user in refining the modelling starting from the Business Strategic level (BSM) to the Technology Independent Module (TIM) till the realisation of the product-service at Technology Specific Module (TSM) implementation. Perpendicular to the previous dimensions the modelling is based on three major views: organisational/human, physical means and IT. These three views are cross all the other levels (BSM, TIM, TSM).
